Crochet Video: Easy Shell Post Stitch Scarf

It's getting cold out there, winter is coming, and it's time to stay warm so try this very easy Post stitch Shell Crochet Scarf. There are only 2 stitches, The shell and a post stitch. The shell stitch is done in the center of each of the previous rows shells and the same with the post stitches. The video link is below to see how ti's made. 

Shell Post stitch Scarf
Multiple of  6+5 chains
If you add 5 chains you add 1 shell to the pattern.
Hook size: I

Chain 29
Gauge: 
7 inches = 4 sts per inch. 
1 2/3 rows per inch

Stitches/Abbreviations:
Shell is (2dc, ch1,2dc)
dc = Double Crochet.                                              
ch = chain
FPdc = Front Post Double Crochet
BPdc = Back Post Double Crochet
TCH = Turning chain

Pattern:
Row 1:
1dc in 4th ch from the hook. *skip 2ch, shell in next, skip 2 ch, 1dc in next ch. * rep 3 times more. When you have 1 chain left do 1dc in it.

Row 2:
ch3,  *FPdc in next DC, do shell in center of next shell, *
rep end with 1FPdc in 2nd to last stitch, 1dc in TCH

Row 3:
ch 3,
*BPdc around the next post stitch,shell in center of next shell, *
End with 1BPdc in the next post stitch, 1 DC in TCH.

Repeat rows 2 and 3

Crochet Video: Beautiful Easy Crunch Shell Stitch Scarf

This is a beautiful stitch to create a scarf with. It's called the Crunch Shell stitch. The Shell consists of a Single Crochet, Half Double and Double Crochet all in 1 stitch.

You can also use scarf patterns for blankets just increase the amount of chains. You just need a multiple of 3 stitches.

Hook I
Multiple of 3 chains needed

GAUGE:
Ch24 = 7 inches
3 1/2 stitch per inch
5 rows = 2.75 inches

Shell is (1SC,1HDC, 1DC) in the indicated stitch

Ch24
Row 1: Shell in 4th chain from the hook. *skip 2 chains, Shell in next chain* repeat between astericks until 2 chains remain then skip 1 chain then 1 DC in the last chain.

Row 2: ch3, *Shell in next DC (which is the first stitch of the group). Skip HDC, SC* repeat doing 1DC In TCH

Repeat row 2 for the rest of the pattern.

You need an even number of chains to complete the scarf. 


Ch24 
Hook Size: I/9, 5.50 mm, UK5

Gauge
7 1/4 inches wide = 3 1/3 stitches per inch
Chain 24 or any even number

Row 1: do 1 sc in the 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across the row.(23sc)

Row 2: ch4 (first DC and ch1) (naturally skip the base of the chain 4 then...)
skip the next SC, 1DC in next SC *ch1, skip 1, 1DC in next SC. repeat from the * to the end of the row.

Row 3: ch1, 1SC in 1st DC, 2SC in each chain 1 space across the row 
(that includes that chain space right under where you just did the SC.)
End with 1 SC in the last chain 1space formed by the ch4 from previous row, then do 1SC In the TCH.

Row 4: ch1, do 1SC in each stitch across the row. 

Repeat rows 2-4 for the remainder of your scarf.

Video Tutorial: Triple Crochet Diagonal Scarf


Triple Crochet Diagonal Scarf/Stitch pattern
This is a great stitch pattern that ANYONE can make. It's very simple and interesting at the same time. Great for a beginner crocheter.  Check out the video, link below, and the pattern under it.


Hook Size: I
12 rows = 10.5 inches
Width: 7 inches (ch 29)
Yarn: Caron 1 pound...Tan, Blue, Cream
Gauge: 4 1/8th chains per inch and 1 1/8th  row per inch


Abbreviations:
  • TCH – Turning Chain
  • TR – Triple Crochet
  • DC – Double Crochet
  • ch3 – Chain 3
or Multiple of 7+8

Row 1: go into the 4th chain from the hook and do 2TR in it. *Skip 3, 1 DC in next chain, ch3, 1 TR in each of the next 3 chains* rep to last 4 then skip 3 and do 1 dc in the last chain.

Row 2: Chain 3, (counts as 1st dc) Do 2 TR in the same space as the chain 3. *skip 3TR, (1DC, ch3, 2TR) in chain 3 space. 1TR in the next DC* Repeat end with Skip 2 and 1DC in the TCH

This one may look difficult but it only looks that way because of the taller stitch. It uses Half Triple Crochets. It alternates between doing a HTC Shell and 1 single HTC. You're just skipping stitches in-between that creates the lace effect.

Crochet Video Tutorial: Cozy Crochet Winter Flat Bobble (Cluster) Scarf

This is a beautiful crochet pattern for a scarf. It will keep you warm in the fall or winter. It's made using a Flat Bobble Shell stitch. Yes flat, not the traditional ones. It has a beautiful texture. I like to do patterns that are easy enough for a beginner and is something different they can try. It's also great for someone who is experienced. 

You will be alternating between doing a row of the Flat Bobble Shells and a row of a group of 3 double.crochets. I know it's hard to see but it will make more sense when you start. It creates a lace type effect.

Uses a multiple of 4 + 3 chains.
Hook size:I
chain 23 
Swatch: 11 inches high and did 14 rows = 1 1/4 rows per inch
                7 inches wide= 3 1/4 sts per inches

Length: 56 inches long by 7 inches wide

Abbreviations
Bobble (aka Cluster - all in the same stitch): Insert hook in the stitch indicated, Yo pull through. YO Pull through 2 loops. Repeat 2 more times then YO and pull through all 4 loops.

Bobble Shell = (Bobble, chain 3, Bobble) all in same stitch
YO = Yarn Over

Ch3sp = Stands for a chain 3 space

Pattern
Chain 23
Row 1: Do 1dc in 4th chain from the hook. Do 1dc in each of the next 2 chains, *chain 1, skip 1, 1dc in each of the next 3 chains *repeat to last chain and do 1dc in it

NOTE: As you can see...you have groupings of 3dc's. You are doing a Bobble Shell in the center dc of each of those groupings. The exact instructions are written out. You are ending with 1dc in the TCH.

Row 2: Chain 3 (counts as first here and throughout. Skip 1st dc, Do (Bobble, ch3, Bobble) in next
stitch *Skip 2dc, do Bobble shell in next dc * repeat to last 2dc and do 1dc into TCH

Row 3: Chain 3, Do 3dc into 1st ch3sp. *chain 1, 3dc into next ch3sp * repeat to last 2dc and do 1dc
into TCH

Repeat rows 2 and 3 for as long as you want your scarf to be.

This is a new pattern that I'm adding to the list of Winter scarfs and stitch patterns. This is a very simple but interesting stitch pattern. Great for a beginner. I wanted to show you a swatch using 2 yarns so you can see the pattern it makes.  It gives a great texture. If you're a beginner it's something different then just using the same basic stitch over and over again. 

After Row 1 you will be doing a Double Crochet in each Double Crochet from the previous row. You will also be doing a Single Crochet in each Single Crochet from the previous row. If you don't have the instructions with you that's an easy way to remember what to do.

Yarn used: All Caron 1 Pound  in Sage
Chain 19
Crochet Hook: I
Scarf Size: 6 inches by 56 inches

Gauge:
3.25 (3 1/4) stitches per inch
2.25 (2 1/4)rows per inch

Multiple of 2 + 3 chains are needed

Abbreviations:
* - *: Repeat the instructions between the astericks
ch = chain
SC = Single Crochet
DC = Double Crochet

PATTERN:
Row 1: Go into the 4th ch from hook (counts as 1st DC) do 1SC  , 1DC in the next chain, *1SC in next chain, 1DC in the next chain*  repeat between * til the end of the row.

Row 2: Chain 3 (counts as 1st DC) *1SC in the next stitch, do 1DC into the next stitch. * repeat between * and * til the end of the row, ending in the turning chain

Crochet Video: Easy Crochet Lacy Shell Scarf










Easy Lace Crochet Scarf

This is a very easy crochet lace shell scarf. I know it doesn't look easy but you're only using 2 stitches for this entire pattern. Those stitches are a single Half Triple Crochet (HTC) and Half Triple Crochet Shell. Because I'm using a large stitch you can't really see the pattern but if you go to this link it's a smaller stitch and is very similar. The only difference is instead of a single HTC like I mentioned above you are doing 2 DC's (1 after another) and alternating with a Shell stitch. There is a video for that pattern as well.

Granny Stripe Scarf Crochet Pattern + Video







This is my Granny Square Inspired Crochet Scarf. I'm so glad I made this because it is definitely my favorite. It's thick and warm and soft thanks to Caron 1 pound yarn.

This scarf is made by grouping several Double Crochets in each "space". This would be a great scarf, or stitch pattern, for a beginner because you're into the "spaces" not an actual stitch, except for the turning chain. There information about Turning Chains if you're a beginner.

Stitches: Single Crochet (row 1), Double Crochet (every row after)
Gauge: 3.2 sts per inch and 0.7 rows per inch
Chain 26, Take away or add in multiples of 3
Hook Size: I
Yarn: Caron one pound, Cream
       
Length: 8.5 inches by 60 inches long
Rows: 96 including a last row of Single Crochets (optional)

Abbreviations:
TCH – Turning Chain
Space- The space between groups of 3dc's
* - Repeat instructions between them


PATTERN: (corrections on row 4 fixed 10/27/2013)
Row 1: Do 1SC in the 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across the row. (25 sc)

Row 2: ch3, 1DC in same space as the base of ch3, *skip 2SC, 3DC in next SC* rep end with Skip 2SC, 2DC in the last SC  (7 dc groups)

Row 3: ch3, 3DC into next space and in each space across the row end with 1DC into TCH (8 groups)

Row 4: ch3, 1DC same space as the base of ch3, *3DC into next space*, 1DC into TCH (7 dc groups)

Repeat rows 3 and 4

I did a row of Single Crochets for the last row.

Warm Fibonacci Crochet Scarf

To make this winter crochet scarf I am using the Fibonacci Sequence. I used it to make the lighter colored sections. The section of the sequence I am using is 1, 1, 2, 3, 5 then I go in reverse...5, 3, 2, 1, 1. I am using the lighter yarn for those rows. I'm doing 8 rows in between each of those “sequences” in Dark Brown. It's all written out below the pattern further down.

If you're not familiar with the Fibonacci Sequence the first two Fibonacci numbers are 0 and 1, the next number is the sum of the previous two and so on. So the numbers are 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21, 34,55,89,144 etc....

Chain 21
Hook Size: K
Completed Rows: 112
Size: Adult or Childrens
Final Size: 58 inches by 7.5 inches

Yarns: Impeccable Loops and Threads
         “True Taupe”; “Heather”, 1 Skein each
 
Abbreviations:
SC – Single Crochet
DC – Double Crochet

Seed Stitch Pattern
Odd number of chains needed
Used 21 chains


Pattern:
Row 1: do 1 SC in second chain from hook,* 1 DC in next chain, 1 SC in the next chain* Repeat across the row

Row 2: chain 1, turn… skip 1st stitch (normally you don't but for this pattern you have an "empty" stitch every other stitch), *1SC and 1DC in next stitch, skip 1 stitch*    repeat across the row.
When you have 2 stitches left skip 1 and 1sc and 1dc in the last stitch

Chunky Scarves for men



Half Double Crochet scarf

Men's Crochet Scarves

These were made for Charity November Bazaar.They are more geared towards mens scarfs. They are made with Half Double Crochets. Very easy and fast.

Yarn Used: 1 skein of each color per scarf, Lionbrand Wool-Ease Chunky.
Size: 8 inches wide x 56 inches long
Hook Size: K

Note:
  • Each color section is 6 inches long (12 rows) so change yarn every 6 inches. To change yarns when you get to the last stitch complete it with the new yarn.
  • The chain 3 does NOT count as first hdc
Stitches Used: chain, Half Double Crochet

Skill Level: EASY

PATTERN:
Chain 19

Row 1: go into the 3rd stitch from hook and do 1 hdc, do 1 hdc in each stitch across the row (17 hdc)

Row 2: chain 3, do 1 hdc in each stitch across the row
Repeat row 2

Colorful HDC Childs Scarf


This is a 2 toned scarf that I made for a charity. It's a children's size. It uses Half Double Crochets. IF you wanted an adult sized scarf you can make it longer.

The variegated yarn is from Red Heart and the pink as well. You can change the yarns if needed.

Stay warm this winter!!!
I made this very easy scarf for charity Bazaar. The colors are more for a child than an adult. It measures 7 inches wide by 51 inches long. I used yarn by Caron's Simply Soft (variegated) and I Love this Yarn, pink (by Hobby Lobby).

Hook Size: K
Chain: 20

Variegated Section: 7 inches for 16 rows
Pink Section: 4 inches for 11 rows

Pattern:
The chain 2 does not count as 1st hdc.
Row 1: 1hdc in the 3rd chain from the hook, do 1 hdc in each stitch across the row.

Row 2: chain 3, turn. 1 hdc in each stitch across the row

Repeat row 2

This is a very elegant lacy shell scarf which is very very easy to make. Easy enough for a beginner. After row 4 you won't even need the instructions which I love. You repeat row 3 for the pattern.

The only stitch you are doing is a Half Triple Crochet (HTR). You do a Half Triple Crochet Shell and a Single Half Triple Crochet . As you go throughout the pattern all you do is build a Shell stitch in the Shell from the previous row and do a Single HTR on top of the other single HTR's from the previous row.

Yards of Yarn: 474 feet - 158 yards (for every extra row add 9 feet)


Hook Size: K
Finished Size: 6 inches wide x 51 inches long
Yarn: Caron 1 pound, Sky Blue
Gauge: 3.67 sts per inch / 1 row per inch
Rows: 51


STITCHES:
HTR (Half Triple Crochet)
Wrap yarn around hook 2 times , then insert hook into the indicated stitch, YO and pull through, YO pull through 2 loops, YO and pull through all 3 remaining loops.

HTR Shell= [2 Htr, chain 2, 2 Htr] all in same stitch

WRITTEN PATTERN

Chain: 22, add or subtract in multiples of 6
(ch4 counts as 1st Htr here and throughout)
Row 1: Do 1 Htr in 5th chain from the hook, do 1 Htr in each stitch across the row. (you made 18 Htr's -19 total)


Row 2: Ch 4, turn. Do 1 Shell in the 4th st (include the ch4 as the first), Skip 2 sts, *Do 1Htr in the next st, skip 2 sts, 1 Shell in the next stitch, skip 2 sts* repeat from * to * end w/ 1Htr in the TCH* (3 Shells and 4 Single Htr's made)


Row 3: Chain 4, *Do 1 Shell in the center of the Shell from the previous row, then do 1htr in the top of the previous rows single HTR*
Repeat the instructions between * and you will do the final “1Htr” in the turning chain.
(including the beginning ch4, you made 3 Shells and 4 Single Htr's.)

Very Last Row: Do 1HTC in the top of each stitch AND in the center of each Shell. That was left out of the video.

Repeat row 3 until you reach the desired length. Cut yarn and weave in all ends.

Row 1: do 1 DC in the 4th chain from the hook and do 1Dc in each stitch across the row (there's 19DC's total)
Row 2: ch3, turn. The beginning ch3 is the 1st DC now skip the NEXT 2 stitches after that, and in the forth stitch from the hook Do *1 Shell in the next chain, Skip next 2 stitches, 1Dc in the next stitch, Skip next 2 stitches* Repeat from * to * 1 more time. Then, Do 1 Shell in the next stitch. Skip 2 sts, do 1DC in the next stitch..which is the turning chain (You made 3 Shells and 4 single DC's, including the beg ch3)


Row 3: ch3, turn. *Do 1 Shell in the center of the Shell from previous row, 1 DC in the single DC from previous row* repeat from * to * 1 more time then, Do 1 Shell in the center of the Shell from previous row , 1 DC in the turning chain (If you're not sure where the turning chain is...just skip the next 2 dc's because they are part of the shell from the previous row. The next stitch is the turning chain.

Last Row: Do 1DC in the top of each stitch AND in the center of each shell, ending in the TCH. Cut yarn and your finish!!

Repeat row 3 for as long as you need to.
