This is a Crocheted Tank Top  / Vest that I made for Knit-A-Square. 've never ventured into socks. You can knit or crochet items.

When I do the seed stitch I like to use more then 1 yarn so you can see the design it creates. But if you want it a solid color it will still look great! All you need to be able to do is a single crochet and double crochet.

It consists of 2 rectangles and straps. The instructions are below but you can also download the instructions at the link below this.

Stitches Used: Single and Double Crochet

Front and Back, width = 13.5 inches x 17 inches (before straps)

Straps = 3.25 wide x 8 inches tall
Completed Rows: 42 rows = 17 inches high
Worsted Weight Yarn: Caron 1 Pound, Blue and Tan or any soft yarn
Gauge: 3.05 stitches per inches and 2.5 rows per inch
Hook Size: I / 5.5 mm
Chain 41 for front and back

The basic seed stitch pattern calls for an odd number of stitches.

Pattern:

Row 1: do 1 SC in second chain from hook,* 1 DC in next chain, 1 SC in the next chain* Repeat across the row

Row 2: chain 1, turn… skip 1^st stitch (normally you don't but for this pattern you have an unused stitch every other stitch), *1SC and 1DC in next stitch, skip 1 stitch*    repeat across the row.
When you have 2 stitches left skip 1 and 1sc and 1dc in the last stitch

Repeat row 2

"Knit-a-Square" Charity

Hi, I hope you are doing well today. Last week I decided to find a second charity to knit and crochet for and I stumbled upon Knit-A-Square, based in South Africa.  They accept 8 inch squares, that they make into blankets. You can make vests (AKA Go-Overs), which the kids put over their shirts to keep warm. Hats and Pull overs type of sweaters are also something they accept.

There's a ton of information on their website and I have many links below. I can't believe what those children have been through. They cater to orphaned children with HIV/AIDS.  They hand out blankets, hats, vests, toys to children like the ones in the photo to the left. That way they have something to lay on except the floor and something to keep them warm in the cold months. 

 Some pictures break your heart but others put a smile on your face when you see them receiving their gifts. In their newsletters they show photos of the kids receiving their items. 

"by 2010 it is estimated that orphans will constitute between 9 and 12% of the South African population" that's millions of kids.

Charity Lap Blanket #1 - Bernat Soft Yarn

This is a very simple and easy crochet lap blanket/afghan that I made for StillSomeone.org.   Bernat Softee Chunky yarn is my favorite because of how soft it is. If you're not a fan of making a blanket as 1 piece this pattern is for you. I made 5 columns of 3 rectangles each. Just change yarns after each section, then sew the columns side by side. See a link for a video on how to do that below.

The Bernat yarns I used were: New Denim Heather, Soft Taupe, Natural,Nature's Way, Faded Denim and Grey Heather (Yardage listed after pattern)

Chain 19 at the beginning of each column
Hook Size: K
Final Size of the afghan:37 inches x26 inches
Each section is 9 in length

Pattern:
The beginning chain 2 does not count as the first stitch.
Row 1: do 1 Hdc in the 3rd chain from hook and in each stitch til end of row (17 Hdc)
Row 2: chain 2, turn...do 1 Hdc in each still til end of row (17 Hdc)

Repeat row 2 until you reach 9 inches, or the length you desire, and change yarns for the next rectangle. When you've made three rectangles you can cut the yarn and finish it off.  Then start the second column, then the third.

YARDAGE:
Bernat Yarns Used and Amount of Yarn Needed :
New Denim Heather (Light Blue) 1 skein
Soft Taupe (Brown) 1 skein
Natural (Cream) 1 skein
Nature's Way (Variegated) 1 ½ skeins
Grey Heather (Grey) 1 skein
