Twin Size Golden Lavender Traditional Granny Square Blanket

 

This is my newest Crochet, Twin Size, Traditional Granny Square blanket. I gathered all my favorite colors and made a blanket with them. It's great if you only have a small amount of yarn for some and have more in others. All the amount are below. I used Michael's yarn "Impeccible, Loops and Threads" and Caron 1-pound.

This granny square is great for beginners because you are only working in chain spaces. You don't have to worry about what stitch to work into.

NOTE:  I have the instructions written 2 ways. The first one you see below are with repeats. But if you are a beginner you may want to see the instructions without them. Just scroll past the first set.I've been crocheting since 2009 and I still like the instructions without the repeats.

I have everything calculated so you can see the amount of yarn I had to use for each one.

Quantity 18 Purple Shaded Granny Squares 

Row 1 and 2: Lilac, Caron, 1 Pound Yarn = 250ft = 83 yards

Rows 3 and 4: Lavender by Impeccible Yarn = 588 ft = 196 yards

Row 5 and 6: Dark Purple, Caron 1 Pound yarn= 924 ft = 308 yards

Row 7 and 8: White yarn, Red Heart Yarn 894 ft = 298 yards

Quantity 22 The Tan/Gold shaded Granny Squares

Rows 1 and 2: Off white, Caron 1 Pound = 305 ft = 101 yards

Row 3 and 4: Cream, Caron 1 Pound yarn= 718ft = 239 yards

Rows 5 and 6: Gold, Impeccible Yarn= 1131ft = 377 yards

Row 7 and 8: White yarn, Red Heart Yarn= 1092ft = 364 yards

This doesn't account for the yarn used in sewing the blanket together. 

SEWING: I did the whip stitch on the rows and Single Crochet sewing for the columns.Video's coming soon on how to do the sewing.

Size Entire Blanket: 80 x 46 inches

Hook Size: Granny Squares = H/8/5.0mm (6 UK )

Row 7: Single Crochet Border: Insert hook into any stitch and chain 1, then do 1sc in each stitch. For the corners you can do 3sc. When you made it all the way around join it in the top of the 1st sc. The reason for the 3sc in the corners, without a chain 1 in-between, is because when I sewed it I didn't want an empty space. 


Cut yarn and weave in all ends

SEWING: I did the whip stitch for the rows and a single crochet sewing on the columns. Usually I do the Single Crochet technique for the whole blanket but I wanted to see what it would look like with the whip stitch.

Blue Granny Square Baby Blanket

This Crochet baby blanket (or Lapghan) consists of 20 Granny Squares that are 7 3/4^th inches in size. There are 6 rows in the Granny Square and 1  "border" row of Single Crochets.

This square is called a Traditional Granny Square. If you're a beginner this is a great square to make. I say that because you're not crocheting into a stitch you're crocheting into spaces.

Total Size: 41inches (104.14 cm) x 32 inches (81.280 cm)

Hook Size: Granny Squares = K /10.5 / 6.50mm

YARDAGE: Yarns used (Worsted Weight) 

• Red Heart, “Stonewashed” (Medium Shade of Blue) 126 yards
• I Love that Yarn, “Dark Country Blue” (Darkest Shade of Blue) 425 yards
• Caron 1 Pound, “Sky Blue” (Lightest Shade of Blue) 543 yards

The Dark Country blue used over 1 skein of yarn just because I did a row  7 made of Single Crochets, as a border. So if you want to stay under 1 skein omit this row or use a different yarn for it. I did it because I used the same yarn for Row 6 and for sewing and I wanted to be able to see a slight difference in color so the 2 wouldn't blend together. I like the effect.

Modern Traditional Granny Square Blanket

                                                        

This is my first Granny Square Blanket and I really enjoyed making it. It's made up of  40 Traditional Granny Squares that are 8 inches in width, before the white border. I wanted to make it because when my brother and I were born my mom received baby blankets for us. I still have mine to this day and I"m 36 years old. Mine is a twin size. I figured if mine lasted this long this one might too.

INSTRUCTONS HERE

The most important thing for me was the price which is why I made it.  It cost under $15.00.

Both Caron 1 Pound Yarns (blue and tan) can be bought at 40% off from Michaels using their coupon. $5.40 each then I got 1 skein of Red Heart for the white border, and to sew it together.

30 Squares of 2 rows of Blue / 2 rows of Tan /  2 rows of Blue, finish with white

10 Squares of 2 rows of Tan / 2 rows of Blue / 2 rows of Tan, finish with white

Border: Insert hook into any stitch and chain 1, then do 1sc in each stitch. For the corners you can do (2sc, ch3, 2sc)

My Grandmother's Granny Square Blanket

 This is my late Grandmother's Granny Square Blanket.
I finally have something of hers. She's been gone since 1995 and until now I had nothing of hers. I'm very sentimental so having something she owned makes me very happy.

My mother just started talking to her sister after 13 years of no contact. Long family fued. My mom told her I crocheted/knitted so when we saw her for the first time she brought this twin size Granny Square Blanket for me.  It was made by my her sister. So this is really old, like over 60 years, but looks like it was made yesterday! Blankets are my favorite because it's something I can use every single day.

 The squares are Traditional Granny Squares made up of 4 rows then a 1 row border of brown yarn, and sewn with it.  10 rows of 6 squares gives you 60 squares total. That's alotta squares to make.
