This
is a great pattern for a beginner to do. As long as you can do a
Double Crochet then you can do this crochet pattern. It would be great for a scarf, blanket and a
number of other items.
If
you're new to the turning chain don't let it scare you. What I do is go to the last "normal" stitch and then go to the next bump. That is your turning chain. I will also show you in the video.

chain 3 (counts as 1 DC), 1DC in each of the next 4 sts,
Do 1 shell in the next
