Warm Fibonacci Crochet Scarf

To make this winter crochet scarf I am using the Fibonacci Sequence. I used it to make the lighter colored sections. The section of the sequence I am using is 1, 1, 2, 3, 5 then I go in reverse...5, 3, 2, 1, 1. I am using the lighter yarn for those rows. I'm doing 8 rows in between each of those “sequences” in Dark Brown. It's all written out below the pattern further down.

If you're not familiar with the Fibonacci Sequence the first two Fibonacci numbers are 0 and 1, the next number is the sum of the previous two and so on. So the numbers are 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21, 34,55,89,144 etc....

Chain 21
Hook Size: K
Completed Rows: 112
Size: Adult or Childrens
Final Size: 58 inches by 7.5 inches

Yarns: Impeccable Loops and Threads
         “True Taupe”; “Heather”, 1 Skein each
 
Abbreviations:
SC – Single Crochet
DC – Double Crochet

Seed Stitch Pattern
Odd number of chains needed
Used 21 chains


Pattern:
Row 1: do 1 SC in second chain from hook,* 1 DC in next chain, 1 SC in the next chain* Repeat across the row

Row 2: chain 1, turn… skip 1st stitch (normally you don't but for this pattern you have an "empty" stitch every other stitch), *1SC and 1DC in next stitch, skip 1 stitch*    repeat across the row.
When you have 2 stitches left skip 1 and 1sc and 1dc in the last stitch

8 rows – Dark Brown
1 row – Light Yarn
8 rows – Dark Brown
1 row – Light Yarn
8 rows – Dark Brown
2 row – Light Yarn
8 rows – Dark Brown
3 row – Light Yarn
8 rows – Dark Brown
5 row – Light Yarn
8 rows – Dark Brown
5 row – Light Yarn
8 rows – Dark Brown
3 row – Light Yarn
8 rows – Dark Brown
2 row – Light Yarn
8 rows – Dark Brown
1 row – Light Yarn
8 rows – Dark Brown
1 row – Light Yarn

  1. This is great! I want to try it using only a couple of rows, maybe red, between the Fibonacci numbers and see if I could get up to 21.

    How about one made of a string of golden rectangles? Nobody would know what the heck it was unless the wearer told them, ,thereby appearing to be a huge nerd.

    Anyway, thanks for posting this. It's an excellent idea.
