Crochet Video Tutorial: How to do the Single Crochet

The Single Crochet is the short of all the stitches. The video can be found here 

If you want the steps on how to  do the single crochet these are the steps:
Step 1: Insert your hook into the next stitch.
Step 2: Yarn Over
Step 3: Pull through
Step 4: YO pull through both loops.

If you're a beginner this is the first basic stitch you want to learn. I wrote a pattern down below so you can see what a pattern looks like and the wording used.

At the second row you will chain 1. That's because you need it to be as tall as the other Single Crochet's in the row.


Hook Size is up to you.

Instructions for example:
Chain 15 or any amount needed.

Row 1: Go into the 2nd chain from hook and do 1 sc.  Do 1 sc in each stitch across the row
(14 sc made)

Row 2: ch1, do 1 sc in each stitch across the row. (14 sc made)

repeat row 2

Note: If you chained 20 you would crochet 19 sc. If you chained 30 you would make 29 SC's. That's because you skip 1 chain at the beginning of the first row.

Gauge for Single Crochet: 20 sc with an I Hook is 44 inches.

Crochet Video Tutorial: How to do the Half Double Crochet (HDC)

Learn how to do the Half Double Crochet (HDC) using the video at the link below. It's the second shortest stitch. Its height is taller than a Single Crochet and shorter than the Double Crochet. 

How to do the Half Double Crochet:

Wrap yarn around hook 1 time. Insert hook, YO and pull through all 3 loops.

You don't have to worry about turning chains with any HDC pattern.

On this video I chained 10. You will be doing 8 HDC's. That's because you are skipping 2 chains at the beginning of Row 1.

Gauge for 20 HDC with an I hook is 67 inches
Instructions:
Hook Size: I

Row 1: Go into the 3rd chain from the hook and do 1hdc. Do 1hdc in each stitch across the row
(8 hdc)

Row 2: chain 2 ( Doesn't count as the first hdc) turn. Do 1 hdc in each stitch across the row. (8 hdc)

Crochet Video Tutorial: Cozy Crochet Winter Flat Bobble (Cluster) Scarf

Crochet Flat Bobble (Cluster) Shell Scarf Pattern

This is a beautiful crochet pattern for a scarf. It will keep you warm in the fall or winter. It's made using a Flat Bobble Shell stitch. Yes flat, not the traditional ones. It has a beautiful texture. I like to do patterns that are easy enough for a beginner and is something different they can try. It's also great for someone who is experienced. 

You will be alternating between doing a row of the Flat Bobble Shells and a row of a group of 3 double.crochets. I know it's hard to see but it will make more sense when you start. It creates a lace type effect.

Uses a multiple of 4 + 3 chains.

Hook size:I

chain 23 

Swatch: 11 inches high and did 14 rows = 1 1/4 rows per inch

                7 inches wide= 3 1/4 sts per inches

Length: 56 inches long by 7 inches wide

Abbreviations

Bobble (aka Cluster - all in the same stitch): Insert hook in the stitch indicated, Yo pull through. YO Pull through 2 loops. Repeat 2 more times then YO and pull through all 4 loops.

Bobble Shell = (Bobble, chain 3, Bobble) all in same stitch

YO = Yarn Over

Ch3sp = Stands for a chain 3 space

Pattern

Chain 23

Row 1: Do 1dc in 4th chain from the hook. Do 1dc in each of the next 2 chains, *chain 1, skip 1, 1dc in each of the next 3 chains *repeat to last chain and do 1dc in it

NOTE: As you can see...you have groupings of 3dc's. You are doing a Bobble Shell in the center dc of each of those groupings. The exact instructions are written out. You are ending with 1dc in the TCH.

Row 2: Chain 3 (counts as first here and throughout. Skip 1st dc, Do (Bobble, ch3, Bobble) in next

stitch *Skip 2dc, do Bobble shell in next dc * repeat to last 2dc and do 1dc into TCH

Row 3: Chain 3, Do 3dc into 1st ch3sp. *chain 1, 3dc into next ch3sp * repeat to last 2dc and do 1dc

into TCH

Repeat rows 2 and 3 for as long as you want your scarf to be.
