Crochet Video: Crumpled Griddle Crochet Scarf

New Crochet Scarf

New Crumpled Griddle Crochet Scarf

This is a new pattern that I'm adding to the list of Winter scarfs and stitch patterns. This is a very simple but interesting stitch pattern. Great for a beginner. I wanted to show you a swatch using 2 yarns so you can see the pattern it makes.  It gives a great texture. If you're a beginner it's something different then just using the same basic stitch over and over again.

After Row 1 you will be doing a Double Crochet in each Double Crochet from the previous row. You will also be doing a Single Crochet in each Single Crochet from the previous row. If you don't have the instructions with you that's an easy way to remember what to do.

The Video on how to do it is at

If you need a video on how to do the turning chain click here http://youtu.be/diqWCOVGa3s

Twin Size Golden Lavender Traditional Granny Square Blanket

This is my newest Crochet, Twin Size, Traditional Granny Square blanket. I gathered all my favorite colors and made a blanket with them. It's great if you only have a small amount of yarn for some and have more in others. All the amount are below. I used Michael's yarn "Impeccible, Loops and Threads" and Caron 1-pound.

This granny square is great for beginners because you are only working in chain spaces. You don't have to worry about what stitch to work into.

                                      Instructions Here

NOTE:  I have the instructions written 2 ways. The first one you see below are with repeats. But if you are a beginner you may want to see the instructions without them. Just scroll past the first set.I've been crocheting since 2009 and I still like the instructions without the repeats.

Yarn Brands and Amounts Used
I have everything calculated so you can see the amount of yarn I had to use for each one.

Quantity 18 Purple Shaded Granny Squares
Row 1 and 2: Lilac, Caron, 1 Pound Yarn = 250ft = 83 yards
Rows 3 and 4: Lavender by Impeccible Yarn = 588 ft = 196 yards
Row 5 and 6: Dark Purple, Caron 1 Pound yarn= 924 ft = 308 yards
Row 7 and 8: White yarn, Red Heart Yarn 894 ft = 298 yards

Quantity 22 The Tan/Gold shaded Granny Squares
Rows 1 and 2: Off white, Caron 1 Pound = 305 ft = 101 yards
Row 3 and 4: Cream, Caron 1 Pound yarn= 718ft = 239 yards
Rows 5 and 6: Gold, Impeccible Yarn= 1131ft = 377 yards
Row 7 and 8: White yarn, Red Heart Yarn= 1092ft = 364 yards

This doesn't account for the yarn used in sewing the blanket together.
SEWING: I did the whip stitch on the rows and Single Crochet sewing for the columns.Video's coming soon on how to do the sewing.

Row 7: Single Crochet Border: Insert hook into any stitch and chain 1, then do 1sc in each stitch. For the corners you can do 3sc. When you made it all the way around join it in the top of the 1st sc. The reason for the 3sc in the corners, without a chain 1 in-between, is because when I sewed it I didn't want an empty space.

Cut yarn and weave in all ends
SEWING: I did the whip stitch for the rows and a single crochet sewing on the columns. Usually I do the Single Crochet technique for the whole blanket but I wanted to see what it would look like with the whip stitch.

Crochet Video Tutorial: Mosaic Crochet Stitch Pattern

                                      Video found at https://youtu.be/MkeAzinNIqk

3 colors

VIDEO  ERROR NOTES: 4/27/16 In the video I accidentally say chain 28 at the beginning, it's an error. I chained 23. I also said that the first 2 rows were Double Crochets. They are Single Crochets.

This is a great beginner pattern AND you can customize it depending on what you are going to make. It's 7 inches wide. You need a multiple of 12 +11 chains.

Quick Note about the written pattern below. Because of the amount of stitches when I say "2SC", that means to Do 1SC in each of the next 2 stitchesIf I say 4DC's then do 1DC in each of the NEXT 4 stitches. I never write patterns like this but it will save a lot of space AND be easier for you to read it.

This Crochet stitch pattern is called  Mosaic.  It uses all the stitches to create the pattern. A beginner can easily create this design. This crochet pattern has repeats in case you want to increase the number of stitches you are using.

Stitches Used:
  • Single Crochet (SC)
  • Half Double Crochet (HDC)
  • Double Crochet (DC)
  • Triple Crochet (TR)
  • Long Single Crochet (LSC)
Chain: Multiple if 12+11

Pattern: Mosaic Stitch Pattern
Size: 7 inch square
Chain: 23
Hook: I
Yarn: Red Heart or any worsted weight yarn

Color pattern:
2 Rows with Yarn A and 2 rows with Yarn B
OR
2 rows A, 2 rows B,  2 rows A, 2 rows C then repeat if needed

**PLEASE READ Quick Note: Because of the amt of stitches and to save time, when I say "2SC", that means "Do 1SC in each of the next 2 stitches"If I say 4DC's then do 1DC in each of the NEXT 4 stitches. I never write patterns like this but it will save a lot of space and be less confusing, or intimidating, for you.**

Abbreviations:
* : repeat the instructions between the asterisks
SC= Single Crochet HDC= Half Double Crochet
DC=Double Crochet  TR= Triple Crochet   Ch = Chain
2LSC (Long Single Crochet) = Inserting hook from front, like a normal stitch, work 1SC into each of the 2 skipped SC's  3 rows below.

The first pattern is the exact pattern I do in the video. If you want to make something larger, under it is the pattern with the repeats.

Crochet Video Tutorial: Carry yarn up the sides

With Video

Carrying your yarn up the sides is a very usefull technique. But it needs to be tucked away neatly like the first photo which is right above.  The second photo below this has 1 inch strands on the sides which make it very easy to get caught on anything including fingers and toes. Depending on what you are making.

If you've ever weaved in your ends as you crochet then you can do this. All you're doing is weaving the old yarn in 1 time only then dropping down. It's ready next time you have to pick it up.

Check out the video at the link right below.
