I have a new video on Youtube called the seed stitch. I have made many items using it. It's one of my favorites especially when changing colors. You can really see the design better. 

I'm using the Fibonacci Sequence to create stripes in this scarf. The section of the sequence I am using is 1, 1, 2, 3, 5 then I go in reverse...5, 3, 2, 1, 1. The entire sequence is below. I am using the lighter yarn for those rows. I'm doing 8 rows in between each of those “sequences” in Dark Brown.

If your not familiar with the Fibonacci Sequence this is how it goes. The first two Fibonacci numbers are 0 and 1, the next number is the sum of the previous two. So 0+1=1 which is why there is a 2nd "1". Then 1+1=2 etc... and so on.  The sequence is 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21, 34,55,89,144 etc....

Need an ODD number of stitches. Chain 21
Gauge: 2.75 stitches per inch
Scarf: 7.5 inches wide by 62 inches long...or as long, or as short, as you need it.
Hook: K

Pattern:

Row 1: do 1 SC in second chain from hook,* 1 DC in next chain, 1 SC in the next chain* Repeat across the row

Row 2: chain 1, turn… skip 1^st stitch (which is the base of the ch1), *1SC and 1DC in next stitch, skip 1 stitch*    repeat across the row.
When you have 2 stitches left skip 1 and 1sc and 1dc in the last stitch

Repeat row 2

I finally found a Crocheted Solid Shell pattern that works. This is a great pattern to try if you haven't already. Great for any beginner crocheter. The solid shells are anchored by a single crochet that is done in-between them.

Skill Level: Beginner

Hook Size: I

Gauge: ¾ row per inch and 3 ¼ sts per inch

              or 0.75 rows per inch and 3.25 sts per inch

Size: 8 inches wide by 3 1/4^th inches tall

Abbreviations 

* = Repeat instructions between the astericks

st = stitch

sc = single crochet

dc = double crochet
Shell = 5DC's (corrected 5/31)

Pattern

You need a multiple of 6 + 2 chains

chain 26

Row 1: Sc across row

Row 2: ch3, 2dc in same stitch as the chain 3,*skip 2, 1 Shell in next stitch, skip 2, 1 sc in the next* end last repeat with 3dc in last sc

Row 3: ch3, 2dc in same st as the chain 3, *1sc in the center of the next shell, skip 2, 1 Shell in the next stitch, skip 2 * end last repeat with 1sc in TCH

Repeat rows 2 and 3 as needed for your pattern

This is a beautiful lace crochet stitch pattern that any beginner to do. The pattern is very simple even though it might not look it. 

You could easily turn this into a scarf. My swatch is 7 inches wide so that's perfect. You could turn it into just about anything.

You're alternating between doing a Shell stitch and 2 individual double crochets. You repeat that row after row.

FIXED: Regarding the Video on youtube I accidently gave the wrong chain amount. This post is correct when I say multiple of 7 + 2.

I have an almost identical pattern I used on a scarf except I used Half Triple Crochets. The larger the stitch the more open the lace pattern is. 

You need a multiple of 7 + 2 chains for this pattern.

Ch23

Size: 7 in wide

Gauge: 3.25 (3 1/4^th) stitches per inch

1.25 (1 1/4^th) rows per inch

Hook Size: I hook

Abbreviations and Stitches Used:

Shell = (2dc, ch2, 2dc )

sc = single crochet

dc = double crochet

ch3 = chain 3

ch = chain

ch2sp = chain 2 space

tch = turning chain

* = repeat the instructions between the astericks

PATTERN: Chain 23

Row 1: Do 1sc in the 2^nd chain from the hook. Do 1sc in each chain across the row (22sc)

Row 2 ch3 (counts as 1^st dc) *Skip next 2 sts, 1 Shell in next st, Skip 2, Do 1dc in each of the next 2 stitches* repeat .

Row 3: ch3 (counts as 1^st dc) , *Do 1 shell in the next ch2sp, skip 2 sts, Do 1dc in each of the next 2 stitches* repeat 1 more time then Do 1 shell in the next ch2sp, skip 2 sts, Do 1dc in the tch (3 shells made)

Crochet Video tutorial: Double Triple V Stitch

 Crochet Double Triple Stitch Pattern

This is a very simple crochet lace pattern. Great for a beginner project. I call it the Double Triple V-stitch. It's easy because you are alternating between the V-stitch and doing 3dc's in a single stitch. For row 2 and on you are doing a V-stitch in each V-stitch and doing a group of 3dc's in the next group of 3dc's from the previous rows. That might be a little confusing that's why I have the photo above.

Hook size: I

Gauge: 3.25sts ( 3 1/4) per inch and 1.5 (1 1/2) rows per inch

            

Abbreviations:

• Chsp = Chain Space
• ch = chain
• V- Stitch = (1dc, ch1, 1dc)
• TCH = The turning chain

PATTERN:

chain 22

Row 1: Do V-stitch in 5^th chain from hook, *Skip 2 ch, 3dc's in next ch, Skip 2 ch, Do V-stitch in next ch * Repeat until 5 chains are left and do: Skip 2 chains, 3dc's in next ch, skip 1 chain, 1dc in last chain.

Row 2: Ch3, skip 1 st, do *3dc in next st, Do 1 V-stitch in the center chsp of the V-stitch of the previous row, skip 2 sts,* Repeat until you have 8 stitches left (including turning chain) do 3dc in next st, Do 1 V-stitch in the center chsp of the V-stitch of the previous row, end with 1dc in turning chain.

Row 3: ch3, turn. * Do 1 V-stitch in the center chsp of the V-stitch of the previous row, do 3dc's in center stitch of the next group of 3 double crochet's * repeat ending with 1dc in the TCH.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 for your pattern

This is a stitch pattern that has great texture. It's very similar to the traditional Seed Stitch. You are still doing a single crochet and a double crochet. You're just not doing them in the SAME stitch. You just alternate between the two stitches.

This pattern is great for a beginner because it's something other then just doing one stitch but also great for someone more experienced. It definitely does not bore.

I changed yarns so you can see how it looks when you do. It looks as good as the traditional seed stitch.

Beginner Skill Level
Hook Size: I
Gauge: 3 sts per inch and 3 3/4 rows per inch.
Yarn: Worsted weight Yarn

Pattern:

Chain 18

Multiple of 2+2  (any even #)

Row 1: go into the 2^nd stitch from hook and do 1sc in it. *Do 1dc in the next stitch, do 1sc in the next stitch* Repeat from * to * 

Row 2: chain 3 (counts as 1dc), *Do 1 sc in the next stitch, 1dc in the next stitch* Repeat from * to * across the row.

Row 3: ch1 *Do 1 sc in the next stitch, do 1dc in the next stitch* Repeat from * to * ending the row with a Single Crochet in the TCH.

Repeat rows 2 and 3
