Colorful HDC Childs Scarf

This is a 2 toned scarf that I made for a charity. It's a children's size. It uses Half Double Crochets. IF you wanted an adult sized scarf you can make it longer.

The variegated yarn is from Red Heart and the pink as well. You can change the yarns if needed.

Stay warm this winter!!!
I made this very easy scarf for charity Bazaar. The colors are more for a child than an adult. It measures 7 inches wide by 51 inches long. I used yarn by Caron's Simply Soft (variegated) and I Love this Yarn, pink (by Hobby Lobby).

Hook Size: K
Chain: 20

Variegated Section: 7 inches for 16 rows
Pink Section: 4 inches for 11 rows

Pattern:
The chain 2 does not count as 1st hdc.
Row 1: 1hdc in the 3rd chain from the hook, do 1 hdc in each stitch across the row.

Row 2: chain 3, turn. 1 hdc in each stitch across the row

Repeat row 2

FIXED....
**I fixed hook size I not K. PDF corrected
**Also, some people are seeing a chain 26 instead of a chain 22. A site linked to an old PDF. The correct chain is 22.

NOTES:
**All the information for my original pattern (All Half Triple Crochets) is below. But someone asked to have it written with all Double Crochets so that is at the very very end of this post.

**See comments on the youtube video on

This is a very elegant lacy shell scarf which is very very easy to make. Easy enough for a beginner. After row 4 you won't even need the instructions which I love. You repeat row 3 for the pattern.

The only stitch you are doing is a Half Triple Crochet (HTR). You do a Half Triple Crochet Shell and a Single Half Triple Crochet . As you go throughout the pattern all you do is build a Shell stitch in the Shell from the previous row and do a Single HTR on top of the other single HTR's from the previous row.

IF you need a photo tutorial it can be found after downloading the PDF. Written pat is below.

Yards of Yarn: 474 feet - 158 yards (for every extra row add 9 feet)

Hook Size: K
Finished Size: 6 inches wide x 51 inches long
Yarn: Caron 1 pound, Sky Blue
Gauge: 3.67 sts per inch / 1 row per inch
Rows: 51

STITCHES:
HTR (Half Triple Crochet)
Wrap yarn around hook 2 times , then insert hook into the indicated stitch, YO and pull through, YO pull through 2 loops, YO and pull through all 3 remaining loops.

HTR Shell= [2 Htr, chain 2, 2 Htr] all in same stitch

ABBREVIATIONS :
* = Repeat instructions between the astericks
TCH = The Turning Chain
YO = Yarn Over

WRITTEN PATTERN

Chain: 22, add or subtract in multiples of 6
(ch4 counts as 1st Htr here and throughout)
Row 1: Do 1 Htr in 5th chain from the hook, do 1 Htr in each stitch across the row. (you made 18 Htr's -19 total)

Row 2: Ch 4, turn. Do 1 Shell in the 4th st (include the ch4 as the first), Skip 2 sts, *Do 1Htr in the next st, skip 2 sts, 1 Shell in the next stitch, skip 2 sts* repeat from * to * end w/ 1Htr in the TCH* (3 Shells and 4 Single Htr's made)

Row 3: Chain 4, *Do 1 Shell in the center of the Shell from the previous row, then do 1htr in the top of the previous rows single HTR*
Repeat the instructions between * and you will do the final “1Htr” in the turning chain.
(including the beginning ch4, you made 3 Shells and 4 Single Htr's.)

Very Last Row: Do 1HTC in the top of each stitch AND in the center of each Shell. That was left out of the video.

Repeat row 3 until you reach the desired length. Cut yarn and weave in all ends.

Again, for the Photo Tutorial please download the PDF HERE.

Then, Do 1 Shell in the next stitch. Skip 2 sts, do 1DC in the next stitch..which is the turning chain (You made 3 Shells and 4 single DC's, including the beg ch3)
